New Cadet Assistant Public Affairs Officer

Cadet 2nd Lt Caleb Bartel has taken the role of Cadet Assistant Public Affairs Officer for the Burlington Composite Squadron.  Cadet Bartel's duties will include: news posts including photography on the doubledeuces.org website, helping publish the squadron newsletter and calendar of upcoming events, as well as assisting the PAO with media contact.

Cadet Bartel has already taken a role in posting the recent Open House news, including photographs.

In addition to his duties in Public Affairs, he is also the Cadet Assistant Safety Officer for the Squadron.

 

Open House To Be Held September 29th, 2009

Civil Air Patrol squadron holds public open house.

Burlington, NC - The Burlington Composite Squadron, local unit of the Civil Air Patrol, is hosting an open house beginning 6:30pm on Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 at the North Carolina Wing Headquarters.

Members of the squadron will be present to greet visitors and explain CAP's missions for America.  Adults are encouraged to attend and get an up-close understanding of the senior program and bring their children along to meet CAP cadets (youth ages 12-18), who will be available to discuss National Activities, Summer Encampments and Promotions. The open house is designed to create a greater awareness of CAP's presence and contributions in the community.

The Burlington Composite Squadron, third-largest squadron in North Carolina, is one of 33 units composed of over 1,500 members that are organized throughout the state.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 57,000 members nationwide. CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 90 lives in fiscal year 2008. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 22,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP has been performing missions for America for 67 years.

CERT Training at Burlington

Cadets From the Burlington Squadron Exinguish a FireThe Burlington Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol hosted Community Emergency Response Team training this weekend at the Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport. This CERT Training prepares teams for disaster response by teaching first aid, triage, basic firefighting, and search and rescue.

The training was held at the Burlington Composite Squadron’s headquarters at the airport from 8AM to 5PM on Saturday and Sunday. First Aid and CPR class started at 6PM on Friday. Trainers included individuals from the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, the City of Concord Director of Communications, and volunteers from the Civil Air Patrol. 25 people from the area participated in the training.

"CERT Training will prepare emergency responders for what may lie ahead as we move deeper into the hurricane season. It prepares the individual and small groups how to respond within the community when disaster strikes," said Maj Andy Wiggs, Emergency Services Officer from the North Carolina Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. "We’re grateful for the volunteers who are leading and participating in this training. WING COMMANDER PRESENTS AWARDS AND PROMOTIONS AT BURLINGTON

BURLINGTON, NC (04/15/2009)—Col Roy Douglass, Commander of the North Carolina Wing, presented awards and promotions at a ceremony at the Burlington Composite Squadron weekly meeting.  On hand were squadron members, family, and visitors from around the area.

CAP Cadets on O-Rides

Over the past month, the pilots here at Burlington have been very busy giving Orientation Rides, a ride in a CAP single engine plane, to many of our cadets. The following eight cadets got their first flight:

The cadets flew to Shiloh, Martinsville, Person County, Winston-Salem, Asheboro, Sanford, Henderson, and Raleigh.

New Assistant Public Affairs Officer

Cadet 1st Lt Will Buslinger has taken the role of Assistant Public Affairs Officer for the Burlington Composite Squadron.  As part of his duties, Cadet Buslinger will write news articles, learn photography, and interact with news media contacts.

The cadet has begun work on a list of upcoming events that will be updated with scheduled happenings.

Members Visit Hawfields Middle School

Members of the Burlington Composite Squadron of the North Carolina Wing visited Hawfields Middle School in Mebane on 12 November. The visit provided the students, grades 6 through 8, with information about the Civil Air Patrol and its activities. Four senior members and two cadets made the visit. The presentation was attended by 26 students.
