Squadron Holiday Party

The Burlington Composite Squadron will host a Holiday party on Tuesday, 18 December at 1900. We'll meet at HQ NCWG. Dress is casual. Major Johnson will be making some of his famous punch. Feel free to bring finger foods or snacks. Family and friends are welcome.

New Operations Web Area

The unit Operations Officer, Capt. Surles, has set up an Operations Corner on the unit web site. To view it, go to www.doubledeuces.org and click on "Members" on the left navigation. On this page, click the link that says "Follow this link to go to the members-only area." You should log in using your CAPID and the password that was sent to you by the web site. (If you don't have your password, follow the link on the first "Members" page to send a new password.)

You'll see a new "Operations Corner" link. Capt. Surles will add new content to this area pertaining to operations. Please send him suggestions about what information would help you.

Senior Members Conduct Training Exercise

Senior members of the Burlington Composite Squadron of the U.S. Civil Air Patrol conducted an Urban Direction Finding and Mission Radio Operator training mission. A practice Emergency Location Transmitter was deployed in the Burlington area, and a team was dispatched to track the beacon. A team was stationed at the NC Wing headquarters in Burlington to operate and monitor the radios.

First Aid/CPR Training

Joni Fowler will hold First Aid and CPR classes for the Burlington Composite Squadron from 0900 to 1700 on Saturday October 27, 2007 in Room 120 at the Haw River Campus of Alamance Community College. There will be a $5.50/person charge for a pocket face mask. Cadets who are students must have a signed permission slip from their principle. There is only room for 20 attendees and our squadron will be given the opportunity to enroll first. You will need to enroll by Thursday, October 18, 2007. If there are still openings at that time then we will allow members from other CAP squadrons to enroll. More information will be forthcoming, as well as, access to enrollment forms.

Senior Members Complete BCUT

Tonight, senior members Chuck Dawson and Keith Caraway completed their Basic Communication User Training at NC Wing Headquarters. These members are now qualified to operate CAP radios. Congratulations to them!

Squadron UDF and MRO Exercise

The Burlington Composite Squadron will host a search and rescue training mission on Monday, 8 October. This mission will be used to train members for Urban Direction Finding and Mission Radio Operator qualifications. The training will be held during the squadron's normal Monday senior meeting. Meet at 1900 at NC Wing headquarters. See our "About Us" page for more details.

Wing SAREX in November

The NC Wing will hold a Search And Rescue Exercise on the weekend of 17 November at the Burlington Alamance Regional Airport. More details will be posted as they are made available.

National Preparedness Month

September is the Department of Homeland Security's National Preparedness Month. At the 10 Sept. senior members meeting, Maj. Johnson spoke about Business Preparedness. He shared tips to help a business organization stay in business following a disaster. In addition, much of this advice applies to home and personal preparedness.
